  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working as part of CFM final assembly team (electrical). Assembling CFM56- 5B and CFM56- 7B of electrical components. Carrying out testing procedures in accordance with relevant manuals within aircraft industry. I have been a part of a project which helped me develop new skills which will benefit myself in my career.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • While I have been working at GE Aviation Wales I have learnt new skills such as how to dressing aircraft engines, how to repair and overhaul harness's and relevant electrical systems and also how to carry out testing procedures in a safe and correct manner. My fitting skills have also improved.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed the apprenticeship programme throughout, I have gained experience in other trades before entering the GE apprenticeship and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed working at GE the most. I am happy to be able to say I am part of a team working to build engines.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is very well structured for the mechanical side as every year there are a majority compared to the electrical trade. Being the first electrical apprentice in over 8 years my program hasn't run as smoothly as mechanical but that hasn't stopped me completing and getting a good career.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received the best possible training during the apprenticeship, every one on the training team have been supportive when work felt impossible to keep up with. The college lectures are very well educated and very easy to learn from. 6 week reviews have made it easier to maintain constant goals.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received a lot of support from my training provider has they have been setting goals monthly and helping me get to those goals. I have used them to push myself to become a better all round engineer. They have also given me the opportunity to stay in college and gain more information.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualifications have helped me become a better engineer, to be a better all rounded engineer. Because of the way the apprenticeship program has run I have been able to move around sections meaning my qualifications suits me and my experience throughout the 3 years I have spent at GE.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Through GE aviation apprenticeship I have had the amazing opportunity to carry out my DofE gold award where I went to Hungary and canoed down the river Danube. This took part over 4 days and a distance of 120km+. GE has also allowed me to create new friendships and professional relationships.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend GE to anyone would love to work for a professional and amazing workplace. It is very interesting and although its in a factory condition you will never get bored. Through working at GE my younger brother has joined the company off the back of what ive told him.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
  • The advice I would give to others who are thinking of applying for GE are: Carry out research in the company Have a good engineering project to show you are interested in engineering work hard in school to get good GCSE's go on work experience before applying to see how GE works
