  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role is a maintenance engineer, as a maintenance engineer i am responsible for the rapid detection, rectification and prevention of faults in the workplace. there are many aspects to being a maintenace engineer but I am currently on cover and have a company phone linked to the system. when there is a fault or breakdown with one of the many machines i am sent a message telling me where and when the fault/breakdown occiured. i then respond by going to that breakdown and finding the problem and hopfeully rectifying the issue.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • i feel valued in the sense that i am part of the future of this company and am needed to maintain the machines in order for this company to produce its products and ulitmately its profit, but as an apprentice there is still allot to learn and the true value will not be felt untill i am a skilled man.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the programme is structured well, the first year is 5 days a week at college where you learnt the basics of engineering covering pneumatics, hydraulics, electrics and many more aspects, the second year is day release to college where you further your knowledge of engineering, the rest of the days are spent on plant in the workplace. the 3rd year is solely on plant and this is where you truley start to learn your role as a maintenance man. the 4th year is similar to the 3rd but obviously you are involved in more as you know more, this is where you are fine tuned and tailored to the area where you will be ending up in.

  • 9. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • because it provides you with a great skill set that you can use in many different roles within the company and also outside of it if you so chose to leave one day. it is competative in pay and one of the best paid apprenticeships i'm aware off. great qualificatioins and also offer you thurther education such as foundation degree and degree level qualifications in engineering. earn while you learn! that was my main reason for joining. and also a brnad new BMW on the drive ofcourse doesnt go a miss.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • the advice i would give when applying would be to show in your cv that you are interested in enegineering, you are a motivated individual and also that you work well with other team members. if you get through the shortlist then you will have a series of online test (maths, english, mechanical principles) so scrub up on those. if you pass those you will have an assessment day where you come in and carry out group and individual activities, as well as a short one on one interview. you would want to show leadership in the group activities and confidence but not arrogance when interviewed. good luck!
