  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to test, perform rework activities and finish the vehicles as they come off the production line. I work within a department that deals with these tasks on a daily basis, interacting with other colleagues which involves sharing information, notifying them on tasks that need to be completed, have been completed or problems that have occurred. My responsibilities are to complete the tasks in hand in a safe and efficient manner and fill in relevant paperwork/computer documents, adhere to health and safety rules around the workplace making sure I do not put myself or others at risk, to turn up to my work station on time both from home and from tea break. Other daily tasks involve checking the machinery and tools to ensure they within tolerance and in good working order and filling out the relevant paperwork to confirm this, ensuring my work area is kept clean and tidy to improve organisation, safety and efficiency.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the majority of the programme in terms of the support and advice from experienced colleagues/lecturers, most people are more than happy to help with whatever you need assistance with. The company has made it known that it has certain work policies and ethics that it encourages its employees to follow to create a better working environment for all in both its efficiency and the employees welfare. The programme has more or less met all expectations, there is a potential for a great career if you are determined to follow it and the company will back it, however I did find the start of the programme had some issues with a class not having a lecturer available for some time with the chance of falling behind work through no fault of our own. With the issues now resolved, I am confident to say I am enjoying the programme.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • BMW have invested a lot into the programme with the intention of the apprentices successfully completing it following on with great career prospects. At the very beginning of the programme, employees from the BMW Group made it known that we had done a fantastic job to get into the programme and that they plan to provide us with a career that we would want but also something that would benefit the company. During the programme we've had meetings with college lecturers and the company's apprentice trainers to discuss current expectations and performance analysis which summarised how well we worked on tasks within college and work.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As per a previous answer, the first moments of the programme were off to a bumpy start, however the programme is tailored to suit the job we will eventually be doing once the programme has finished. The units are structured to follow each other in a way that it doesn't jump from one subject to something completely different. Additional support has been offered to those who feel that they may require it and regular updates from lecturers are given to us to see how we are doing within the units.
