  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Every day is different for myself. The night before I will receive my job which could be at any one of our customer sites, usually within the West Midlands, East Midlands or North West. On the day of work I will travel to the customer site, picking up any parts along the way if needed. Once I arrive to site I make my way to the x-ray department and talk with the customers of our system. I talk about the problems with the system if there is any, etc. I then start work by having the system signed over to myself, then I can do whatever work if need, from a service, repairs, fault finding, there are many different jobs which we have to complete. During the job we have to complete many documents since we are working on medical equipment, along with our final job reports, any part returns or call rising (Contacting the German support center for more help). Before leaving site we inform the customer of what we have completed and if more work is needed. We then leave the customer site and even travel to the next job or home.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my engineering skills, I can fault find system quite well, understand system wiring diagrams and have improved how I use tools. I have also improved my driving since of how much of it I do. I have also become more confident within myself, since I'm on site doing this job on my own so I have to believe within myself that I can perform this job. I also have to talk with the customers a lot so this has really helped. I can remember when I first started, how shy I was and how hard it was for me to talk to the customer but now this isn't hard for me anymore. I am able to talk freely to the customers, and have been able to build up a relationship with my main customers.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • At first I didn't enjoy my programme, it was like I didn't have set hours so I had early starts and late finishes. As I have worked through my programme I have started to enjoy it more and more. With my work I'm not stuck on one site over and over, every day it's a different site, a different system and different jobs with different faults. It's something I haven't gotten bored of yet since it's always something different.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Siemens?
  • I feel highly valued by Siemens. Firstly I was awarded Siemens Raising Star of the Year for 2017. I was selected for this out of all of the apprentices from Siemens, not just within my section. I have also received much praise from my direct manger, along with higher up mangers. Also other engineers that I work with also praise me and my work. I feel that I'm am valued by them since for some jobs engineers ask that I am their pair of hands.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • my programme is very organized, I know what I am supposed to do each and every year of my programme. The only unorganized part of my programme is my daily job since this is nearly changed daily. I know when my training is being given, I can always reach for support from my manger or other engineers. If I need time to study I can be given time. I have bi-weekly meetings with my manger to keep track of my progress.

  • I receive constant help from my training provider, if I need any help at any time they are always they. They have dealt with many problems with college though the years. They are always positive when dealing with myself, always happy to help no matter what the problem is, and always offer help on any of the problems which I face.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is amazing, I couldn't ask for more. I get paid enough as an apprentice. I can expensive most of work payments, such as fuel, lunch allowance and parking. Work covers all of my daily costs so I don't have to worry about them. For where I live and for my age my salary is more than expected.

  • 9. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Siemens is a amazing company to work for, they really look after you. There is much support during the daily job, you maybe alone while on site but your not really on your own, there are many people who you can call for help if you are stuck. There are many befits for working at Siemens, including discounts at many places and other befits including the lunch allowance and the company car.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • Give as much detail as possible within your application. At your interview, be care and just be yourself. Within my interview I spoke about the campervans I used to restore with my uncle for most of it. During the onboarding take as many notes and ask all the question you have, but don't worry you don't need to know it all at once you have time to slowly pick it all up.
