  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Some of the day to day activities involve checking my emails and voicemails for queries from both external clients or from internal members of staff. Research into a number of different aspects of UK employment taxes. I am currently the main contact from our skills group for 2 different clients, both of which are audit clients. This means that I interact with the different teams which work on this particular client, such as the HRS corporate tax, the audit team, IAS, etc. There is also a lot of research involved in my work and this requires a methodical and logical thought process in order to consider all the different tax implications for each clients' specific situation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed my existing skills and knowledge of excel and continuing to develop these by way of creating a calculator which will be used by the wider team in order to calculate the tax/NIC liabilities due on employee remuneration to be paid by the employer. Gained more knowledge of employment taxes and the interaction it has with other teams (international mobility, reward, payroll, etc.)

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship program is well structured and organised. However, I also feel that more responsibility should be given to those on the scheme. Every training session is often mandatory, but when Training Associates progress to the Associate grade, they must take responsibility for their own learning and development. When every single training session is mandatory, this often demotivates the people who feel that they already have this knowledge.
