1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I attended British Gas training academy in Thatcham for the first nineteen week of employment and the rest of the year I am learning on the job. I am an Smart Engergy Expert which means I install smart meters into customers houses as well as normal meters.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes. I am completely new to this trade but the training and support I receive from Thatcham Academy and my colleges makes me feel like I have been doing this for years. Plus it's nice to know that if I'm not 100% sure on something I have people to help me.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am seven months in to this job now and I love that every day I am still learning new things. I am not the sort of person that likes to do the same thing every day so this programme/ job is perfect for me.

4. How valued do you feel by Centrica?

I feel very valued as this is a very new and busy job role so I know they need everyone they have to performs to a high standard. I am also aware though that if I make a big mistake then they will be quick to sack me.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

Well to be honest I think it could of been a lot better but I happened to start on a new programme and was the first group be in on it so I understand why it wasn't perfect.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

I receive a lot of support from my manager, coach and colleges. I don't think the Academy staff are supposed to support me whilst I'm in this phase.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

A LOT! I always know if I'm stuck I can call my manager or coach. That's 24/7 as well. Even if I have a question about admin for example I know my manager will help me during and after working hours.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

The salary starts off very poor but once I competed certain stages this wage is acceptable. I do have to do a lot of overtime for it to be more than just ok though. Once the year is up the wage will be brilliant though.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

Yes. I'm not sure if all the options yet but I know we have the opportunity to do volunteer work every now and then. The team often meet up for football and drinks every week.

9. Would you recommend Centrica to a friend?

Yes

9b. Why?

I will end up on a great final wage. British Gas provide great training in academy's that have won awards for there excellent training. There is lots of help and support in work and non work problems. The pension is very good.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Centrica?

First and foremost you have to be good with customers. It's the most important part of the job, way more important than the job it self. You have to have the ability to be able to learn quickly as the course is very full on.
