A building surveyor apprenticeship is available in the Savills building and project consultancy division, within the design and contract administration team (DCA), based in London. The DCA team undertake refurbishment and fit-out projects, defects analysis, maintenance and licence-to-alter for existing properties, across the residential, commercial, retail and industrial sectors. We work with a wide range of property types and ages, including listed buildings.
Our clients include commercial landlords, institutional investors and funds; with instructions generally within Central London or the South East. We manage projects through feasibility, specification, tender and management on site to completion; with contract values ranging from £20,000 to £5 million.
Candidates should have an interest in property and architecture in general, particularly in the development and refurbishment of properties. They will have a keen eye for detail and design; as well as the ability to undertake administration and management of finances in relation to project works being undertaken.
An outgoing, sociable and presentable individual is required. They need to be proactive and confident with the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues, clients, other consultants and contractors. It is intended that the individual will become client facing over time and therefore communication and interpersonal skills are very important.
The apprentice will spend a high proportion of time carrying out inspections of properties and visits to construction sites.
It is intended that the apprentice will obtain on-the-job training to supplement day release studies, with the aim of becoming an RICS qualified Chartered Building Surveyor. Opportunities will be provided to work with other specialist teams within the Building and Project Consultancy division in order to fully complete the necessary training and experience.
Five full days in the office working hours 8:45am to 5:45pm. One of these days each week during term time should be dedicated to study while in the office.
Starting salary £19,000 per annum (based on enrolling onto Level 6 Apprenticeship) (annual increase based on performance)
5 year training programme (Level 6 Apprentice), which entails a part time undergraduate degree apprenticeship (4 years) and APC (2 years, enrolled in year 4 of undergraduate degree) leading to MRICS qualification. Full on the job training provided for all skills required.
Good communication and organisational skills are vital to succeed as an apprentice. You will need the ability to manage a varied workload working as part of a team while also having plenty of your own initiative, and be passionate about delivering the best service possible for your team. Knowledge of CAD software would be an advantage, but is not essential.

- You should have the equivalent of 3 A-Levels (96 UCAS points - GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above is a mandatory requirement) and may not apply if you already have a degree.
