  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a quantity surveyor apprentice, working for MACE and my daily responsibilities include; -Adminestering the Contract by raising PMI's (Prject Manager Instruction) to EWN's (Early Warning Notices) -Speaking with the client/Presenting to the client on any changes thats affects the Contract. -Assesing Contractor's quote when PMI is issued -Liasing with the commercial team to raise and close blockers

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • With the Apprenticeship programme, you are required to develop your KSB's (Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours) that are associated with your degree. When i first started out on my apprentice journey I had 0 KSB's for the role but have learnt new KSB's and have further developed them throughout the years.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is excellent as it is tailored for apprentices. For example Mace have an internal programme apprentices attend to develop new skills In addition to providing us with a internal portfolio catered to your role to help you develop the necessary skills to be successful in your career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Programme is structured and organised well as we are given plenty of notice to attend the mandatory training as well as given a mentor to check your portfolio progress every 4 months.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive plenty support from my employer by having a 1-1 meetings to set out goals and help to achieve them to emotional support as and when needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive plenty of support from my training provider in terms of keeping my 20%OJT updated and sending out reminders to book progress reviews every 4 months.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Learning the modules at University has better helped me to understand how my role works and provides me the knowledge to better carry out my roles and responsibilities. For example learning about Construction Law in a module has better enabled me to understand how NEC Contracts work and in turn how to administer it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of EX activities at work such as attending Christmas parties for networking purposes to volunteering opportunities that are hosted through Mace to help the community. For example, I recently took part in volunteering to join a discussion panel event to help promote the construction industry.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mace to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend anyone to join Mace as the one word that comes to mind is opportunity. Mace provide opportunities for anyone to start a career and helps you to develop the necessary skills to exceed in your role. They provide opportunities to give back to the community by doing volunteering work. They provide global opportunities to work abroad.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
  • When applying for Mace it is important to showcase your self in the interviews. Mace are not looking for people with the very best grades, they are looking for people with the right mindset and passion for the industry. Demonstrate why you would like to work for Mace and in the construction industry and more importantly be your self as your personality will shine through. Best of Luck!
