  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Coordinate the distribution of electronic patient digital questionnaires ensuring patients without digital ability are booked into telephone questionnaire clinics. Monitor and review patients requiring the progress of pre-operative assessments using the Patient Tracking List. Ensure that all referrals received into the department are dealt with according to Trust processes, efficiently and effectively in a timely manner. Monitor urgent investigation requests to ensure they are processed appropriately. Regularly check future clinics, ensuring cover is agreed with the Pre-Assessment Team, and under or overbooking issues are proactively dealt with. Ensure that pathways are validated and accurate using the relevant Trust systems. This includes ensuring that comments and information is recorded accurately and up to dat. Manage the pre-assessment administration workload, ensuring appropriate delegation of tasks to members of the specialty team and re-prioritisation when required. Ensure effective clinic management, when clinics need to be cancelled or closed, patients need to be informed of changes and new appointments provided to patients. Ensure that all data is inputted and/or uploaded accurately into the electronic pre-assessment system and other patient electronic records in a timely manner. Support and monitor all clinic outcomes are completed in a timely fashion by using Trust available reporting tools. Liaise with other departments including Outpatients Department, Diagnostic Imaging, Medical Records, Anaesthetic Department, Ward areas, Translating Services, Transport, and Specialty managers and administration staff. Procedure reports on patient data, the pre-assessment pathway, clinic utilisation and outcomes as required. Action day-to-day issues, ensuring resolution and escalating serious issues to management as appropriate. Act as a point of contact for enquiries, using initiative, tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality to respond. Using personal judgement and acquired knowledge to assess each situation and deal with accordingly. Review and support development and implementation of internal targets. Provide day-to-day supervision and management of the Pre-Assessment administration staff. Be able to work autonomously or as part of the Service Management team on other special projects to improve administrative processes (e.g., reducing DNAs) with an ability to own and manage these projects, advising the management team on next steps. Identify and suggest improvements that can be made to the electronic Pre-Assessment pathway. Support the monitoring of the Pre-Assessment Coordinator mailboxes and replying / actioning appropriately, escalating where required to nursing staff or senior management.

  • I have learnt a lot about communication skills as they are very important in all types of work, they help people to understand and connect and work more effectively in teams. Also Self-motivation and teamwork.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do really enjoy this programme, atmosphere is always lovely and I have met fantastic people. It was the best choice to start my apprenticeship and learn new skills.

  • Very well, I do get support from my assessor whenever I need it, which is very appreciated. Everything is explained very clear, sessions are always on time and everything is running smoothly.

  • My Manager is supporting me with everything, always providing time to complete my study hours weekly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As I have mentioned above, my assessor is always providing me a lot of support. Taking care of my wellbeing as well as my mental health. I am very happy with the support I am getting.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • it is a fantastic feeling that I will be able to progress forward within my career and this opportunity will enable me to find a better job. So I am very grateful for that.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a lot of team work acivities envolved on our sessions, role play and quizess. Very enjoyable!

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • During my apprenticeship, everything that I have needed access too has been right there. All support provided has been great and I have always been up to date with work load and on target due to the adequate tools available around me.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • Even if every subject area covered does not seem of relevance or may not fully interest you, stick at it as it will be worth it in the end.
