1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
My job title is Store Apprentice. My Daily tasks include till work, Stocking up produce, bread and Ambient stock, carding the store, working de-palets and dealing with customer queries. I am responsible for my till being correct at the end of each shift. I am always interacting with my work colleagues and customers.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed my confidence a lot as I am dealing with general public every day. I have learnt how to use my own initiative and make decisions. I have gained mathematic skills on the tills.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I am really enjoying my programme as I love the work involved, the staff are very kind and helpful and the customers are friendly. It is very hard work but also very rewarding knowing if I work hard enough I will progress in the company.
4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
Managers and colleagues have made me feel very welcome in the company and always treat me with respect. I have had praise off members of staff and always had help when needed.
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
My induction was very well organised as I knew exactly what was in store for me. I had training on tills and other tasks and support when I needed it. I have a store assistant work book which has all the necessary information to help me become one of the best. I have meetings with an assessor from the Wirral met college who comes in store and gives me advice and help on what I need to do and what I am doing well with. They also give me assessments such as questions which I need to go and research and come back with the answers. I am given tasks such as to work bread or produce for example.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
I get good support from my training provider from college who gives me support on what I am doing well but also gives me tips on what I need to improve on.
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
I get good support from the management team who give me praise when they feel is necessary and advice when I may not be doing something up to standards. I also get support of colleagues.
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
For an apprenticeship it is a reasonable wage considering most of them pay a lot less and also I know it will increase yearly which is good. From personal point of view however as I run a car I do struggle at times to pay for the running costs. However if I was not living at home I wouldn't be able to manage.
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
Not that I am aware of at the moment.
9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend? *
9b. Why? *
Because it is a great company to work for as it is always expanding, the money is very good compared to other supermarkets, the Staff are very friendly and welcoming, the product price are amazingly cheap. If you work hard enough you know you will have an opportunity to progress within the company.
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi? *
Go into the Interview and assessment days full of confidence and approach group activities with enthusiasm. Make sure your appearance is acceptable ( Smart clothing and well groomed ).
