  • I am an epidemiologist, so I analyse data on the burden of disease in animals.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes - my apprenticeship is in bioinformatics, so I'm learning how to use bioinformatics to understand the spread of diseases.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much so - it challenges me on a regular basis, helps me develop skills I can use in my workplace, and the support/learning has been excellent from my provider.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised - I am always aware what's coming up next during the learning portion of my program, and even during my research project I've felt I have regular contact with my supervisors to know what's going on.

  • Enough support to make sure I can do what I need to do for my apprenticeship, and support when I had to take a break in learning due to BAU requirements

  • Enough support to help me if I have any questions or strugles

  • 100%, I will be able to not only do more and better analysis but also help bring the technology into my workgroup

  • Yes

  • My apprenticeship was well supported - but for the level of expertise needed at my level, I am not paid enough (as my apprenticeship is on top of my BAU)


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Animal and Plant Health Agency?
  • N/A - internal applicants mostly undertake apprenticeships with APHA, apart from our Plant and Bee Health Inspectors
