  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role is supporting more senior members of the team with tax compliance computations, tax audits and advisory work. I perform various admin tasks such as scheduling meetings, and attending various tax learnings. I also attend college and study for my examinations when I am able to find time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many communication skills, as I spend most of my day interacting with my team and clients, in both more formal and less formal environments. I have developed my analytical skills in performing my specialist work. I also have developed my professional scepticism in the performance of my work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am pleased that I chose this programme, as I believe it is the right way to start my career, as I am able to get valuable work experience in an excellent professional services firm, while remaining out of debt and earning a salary. I am learning a lot and meeting many important contacts.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structed as there is plenty of time to work and gain experience, but also there is enough time to attend college and study for exams. The exams are not too compressed, and it feels like there is enough time between them all to keep healthy and motivated.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from both my work 'buddy', my counsellor and my apprenticeship coach, as well as the various internal teams dealing with exams and work. I am able to take time when I need it, and they make it clear that my health is always the first priority.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am sometimes disappointed with the support received. While there is an option to speak to a tutor, all the emails received feel automated and detached. It doesn't feel like I am personally supported by them, and communication is generally poor and too late to help with the issue.

    5/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The knowledge gained in the qualification is sometimes useful. It always seems to be the case that real life scenarios are far more complicated and always have more issues to resolve, but the fundamental knowledge is useful to support it. It does however give me confidence to understand my role better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am a member of the EY Jewish Community and have attended various social events in this capacity. I am not a member of any other societies or sports teams. I have previously attended work socials to celebrate the end of an engagement, but I prefer to keep my work and home life separate.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • EY is an excellent market leading professional services firm, with a strong future. EY cares about it's work culture and makes sure all employees are being looked after. There is a very friendly and supportive work culture, and EY provides extra money for employees to look after their health.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would suggest that you work hard, get involved with team events, and volunteer to help out. However, keep looking after yourself and ensuring you are getting the support you need. This will gain the respect of your superiors and allow you to be happy and healthy and enjoy your work.
