  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I carry out design tasks on Revit, AutoCAD, IES modelling software and blue beam. This includes electrical and mechanical aspects. I have a line manager that I report back to and I am working on multiple projects. I am responsible for producing detailed drawings and joining external client meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to be punctual to all of my meetings, I have learnt how to use multiple software's such as IES and AutoCAD to produce detailed drawings. I have learnt how to balance both my time at university and my time in the office.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy collaborating with my team in the office. I feel comfortable in my work environment and I am able to ask any of my peers for help. I also receive help from the university lecturers.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I am on a well structed programme, I always get frequent updates on my university progress, I am able to book meetings with my managers to discuss any issues that I may have and I am always provided with work to complete in the office.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am constantly supported by my employer. I have been paired to work alongside an engineer, who has been teaching me all of the necessary aspect regarding mechanical engineering in the building services sector. He is able to help me if I have any questions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have a dedicated mentor who is able to answer any of my questions regarding my university qualification. I also have a designated line manager who attends my university APR reviews and helps me progress further with my qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am gaining first hand experience in this sector and it is crucial for my continuous development. I have been able to work on a multitude of different projects both inside and outside of London, as well as attend site visits and design team meetings.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We regularly have group social events whereby we go out and socialise. I have also been invited to professional networking events such as the 'Investors in people awards' in 2022. I was able to socialise with other like-minded individuals.

  • The company always consider what you have to say as well as constantly helping with your development and training. The company are well established and have a lot of experience in the Building Services Engineering Sector.

  • I recommend applying to join this company. Be honest and provide all of the necessary experience that you have gained and why you feel that you are suitable for the role.
