  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am involved in a wide variety of activities including the development and execution of training material for our pub teams, ranging from on-site training, classroom-based delivery, webinars and one to one development. The role is customer-based and thrives on building relationships within teams, being a confident public speaker, a coach and being passionate about people development.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, in every way possible relating to my role. Skills that are already had are being advanced with a conscious approach to understanding how and why I apply the training that I do and is constantly evaluated or built-upon to get the best out of myself and delegates. The confidence you build in your role is huge.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • For me, being back in an academic mindset is great. But more so, it's the learning and developing of myself, my skillset, and my delegates that makes it so worthwhile. I have grown exponentially in the previous 3/4 year since starting. A big shoutout here to Hazel L and Sarah S (Crosby) for making the program so enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very. Especially the 20% learning off the job (or 1/5 working days). My advice is to protect this time at all costs and don't let anyone else in the organisation take it away from you frequently. It's your time to develop and the company you work for will reap the reward if you apply yourself!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support to protect 1/5 working days can feel like a luxury at times, depending on the current business or employer needs, and I am grateful to keep those days in check. My employer will always extend an arm to support, and I know they are there should I need them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All the information is provided periodically or through training activities outlined by the program. The 'bud' system allows you to plan accordingly, and to look ahead at all training activities that are upcoming/ completed/ incomplete/ overdue, etc, and support will absolutely be given if you are struggling to manage your own time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • On every level, in every way. 100%. I thought I was pretty complete in certain areas, but once the course started to make real progress I then realised the concious application of knowledge, skills and behaviours that were missing. Helping me to perform better is one thing, but the confidence this brings is a whole another level.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Professional networking events when the time allows. I am already grateful for the 1/5 working days off the job time, but of course any other extra-curricular activities to support my development would be great. I'd be very open to any opportunity to either share my experiences on the apprenticeship, or to socialise with others who are going/ have been through it to network and collaborate.
