  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Therapy team assistant working with the physiotherapists in the paediatric department working with children with additional needs. Assisting and learning new physio techniques as an apprentice.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new techniques such as mobilisations for the hip, knee and ankle. The anatomy of the lower limb and treatment options.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme and feels that all the lecturers, personal tutors and apprentice mentors are really helpful.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is mostly organised however with the covid restrictions being lifted we still have some online lecturers that would be better in person. There are also some lecturers/learning that could be online which isn’t. Communication between the uni and work place could be improved as people don’t always know what is happening.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been really good and allowed me time for study. The other physios have been able to help with revision for exams and help with assignments.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I attend uni twice a week for a total of 10hrs. Everything we need to know gets taught in theses sessions and then we have access to the learning online.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification will mean that I can become a physiotherapist. At the moment it allows me to do more than me normal job role as I have a better understanding and training experiences.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is an apprenticeship support group available and also a couple of other groups to join.

  • Yes

  • They are allowing me to carrying on working in a role I enjoy whilst study to get to the position I want to be in.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • Ask what support they can give and demonstrate how you are going to enhance the service.
