  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day I assess patients with common mental health issues such as low mood anxiety and stress. I have to do 45 minute assessments following admin which can take 15 minutes per patients. I then treat patients using evidence based treatment on cognitive behvaioural therapy using low intensity interventions to do so. This can take up to 6 30 minute sessions for 6/8 weeks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills as I have not come from a background in psychology. I have learnt how to deliver low intensity interventions, communicate with patients using empathy and techniques taught on the course. I have learnt time management skills as we have to create our own work plans. How to use new systems and talk to services.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot as it has allowed me to develop as a person and in my career. The apprenticeship team are really good at providing information and supporting us all throughout the training. We have training in person and online which is a good balance and allows to hear from others and focus on tasks .

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programe is well structured as we have time to work through materials each week and implement things in the sessions we have. This works alongside the assessments that we have so we do not forgot information or feel overwhelmed as everything is done in stages. Some sessions could have even been shorter as we learn alot about everything in detail.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive alot of support as someone new to the industry, everyone has been really helpful helping me to get the most out of the programme and the options they have to offer. I have received help for different things including dyslexia which is important to get help for in a new role.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get alot of support as we can arrange meetings and tutorials to go through things which i may be unsure about. If anything is difficult there is always someone to discuss this with in the group or separately meaning that you feel listened to as concerns are always tackled and discussed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel it helps me perform better as they support us through the challenges and give me time to reflect on different things which may occur. This helps as it allows me to learn from mistakes and encourages me to do better next time. This only increases my skills and attitude towards the role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are clubs such as book club and things that the service puts on events for. This is useful for wellbeing as there is slot for talking about wellbeing and checking in with colleagues which is helpful as often people can be busy and forget to check in. The trust also has networking events which i have been to which helped to learn more about the trust as a whole.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As the first NHS trust i have worked for i cannot compare with others however it has been good so far in terms of work and the programme which we have been completing. The programme was helpful with starting up the role and getting into the role itself so i have enjoyed it all so far.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • Be yourself and be open, as someone who had not had as much experience as others I was apprehensive however the trust has been helpful and supportive so be open to change and learning from other roles how it can be incorpated to working with oxford health trust as they are supportive.
