  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage the clinical coding department of 17 members and ensures we capture and code all admitted patient care activity as per the national standards to get the reimbursement from the government for the Trust's activity. I attend regular meeting with the Trust board and consultants to improve the quality of coding and income to the Trust.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I improved my communication skills. I learnt how to train or mentor the team with different levels of skills and knowledge. Understood difference between a manager and leader. How to deal with difficult conversations. Range of different topics such as conflict management, deal with challenging issues with the work. I also learnt how to chair a meeting.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme as it is a complete new way learning for me compared to my previous education. There were range of activities that I participated like group discussions, completing my tasks which developed my skills in every aspect of my day to day activities. The course helped me to perform my job even better than before.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course was very well organised but delayed due to the pandemic. The programme skills coach always been in touch with me and guided me throughout my programme. We received the schedule very well in advance to plan and organise things around the training sessions and we also had MS team's sessions during the pandemic.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received very good support from my employer from attending the training and clarifying any doubts that I had during the programme. They are always ready to help me. I have been given dedicated time to complete all my tasks. I had no issues with the support from my employer in completing the course successfully.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My Learning and skills coach has provided me a lot of support throughout my qualification. They reviewed my tasks and made suggestions as where required. They arranged MS teams sessions to suit my availability. At one point, I gave up to finish my programme but they motivated me to continue with the programme and I am always grateful for that. I wouldn't have completed my course without their support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel more confident in every task that I do on daily basis as the qualification improved my skills and knowledge in every aspect of life both professionally and personally. There was always something new to learn from the topics which were covered during the programme. I feel comfortable in handling any challenging issue at work now.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My work place always provide high importance for health and wellbeing of its staff. We have a very friendly and supportive environment that promotes staff physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing. We also have LGBTQ + network. I used to attend regular meetings with LGBTQ network. Out Trust makes an active effort to provide extra-curricular activities to improve the workplace satisfaction.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • NHS is one of the largest employers in the UK and Europe. It allows to join a team of skilled people who have the passion to deliver the best healthcare and treatment to its patients. NHS offers job to everyone to match their skills and knowledge. There is a lot of scope for development to progress both professionally and personally.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • Always check the job role and person specification before apply for any job in NHS. Try to sell yourself by providing additional information to be able to pick your application for the interview. Explore more about the organisation and the role prior to attending the interview. Remember to answer to best of your honesty in the interview.
