  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Mainly concentrate on Highways projects at the moment. Collecting and updating data of stake holders to acquire land from them. Calling and emailing them for survey access and data confirmation. Download up to date documents from HMLR to ensure the contact details and information on the company system is updated.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt a lot about the UK land related legal instrument and right of lands. The skills of communicating within and outside the company. Managing time and work life balance with the possibility of working from home. Use of mapping program like ArcGIS. The use of professional emailing format and wordings.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It has been a really good opportunity to learn and work at the same time. To learn the background knowledge and the platform to use the newly learnt skills parallelly makes things more sensible and more clear than learn while working or learn without a chance to use the knowledge.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is brand new as I am one of the apprentice of the first set. I will say it is not perfect and some syllabus are not as clear as other programmes might be. However, the tutor is very helpful and she is trying hard to make it runs smoothly for us to learn and getting the professional skills as we required to be working in the field.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • They are generally understanding while there are work assigned for me from work and course at the same time. Always wanting to know if there are support they can provide to enhance the learning with the college. And have plenty of hands to cover our time while we at college and not working.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Always willing to answer us in regards of working out a career path and knowledge relating with our work. Keeping all our training records in place for future assessment use and giving us feedback with it. It helps a lot for us to understand where about are we and what more we need to learn towards the qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Giving us a lot of background knowledge to be able to understand how do we approach our job, why certain projects working differently and what do we do to improve the quality as professionals. Also, because there are other apprentice in the same course but different company, we know more about different company's structure in the industry better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Plenty of social activities for us to get involve since I have join the company, almost once every month at least. It gives us very good opportunity to know about out colleagues better and create greater bonding that could enhance our communication efficiency at work and a better atmosphere to work in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a very big company with plenty of opportunities internationally. Friendly colleagues and atmosphere as mentioned in previous questions, so it is not as stressful in a way. Flexible on working in the office and working from home, allow us to handle work and family with a little more flexibility.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Be professional and willing to blend into a company with personality. Make sure they are confident on what they are good at and accept friendly criticising from colleagues, which will surely helps shaping a better them to fit into the role. Develop the skills and experience to work further in the career path.
