  • Highways design and drawing production. Also I am able to get involved in other leadership type experience, developing my commercial ability

  • I had to learn everything from scratch, and didn't understand much about civil engineering at the start of the apprenticeship

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy being challenged, and i have the opportunity to work on new, exciting and different projects every day.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The university was not very well organised at all. I wouldn't recommend using ARU to anybody whatsoever. However my employer made the course as simple as possible.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Plenty, my employer and colleagues assist as much as possible with work and also university inputs. I am close to getting my chartership due to the help and hard work of my colleagues

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A meeting every 3 months with good guidance. No longer any university based meetings.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • my ICE qualification is relevant to my job role. The Civil engineering course was not as useful since it is a more generalised course, including technical knowledge for geotechnics and structures aswell as highways and drainage

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Every night after work there are social activities to get involved in. Football, badminton, table tennis in the office, a work social usually every 2-3 months

  • Yes

  • Its a great company to work for if you like being challenged in a healthy way. in my team there are so many young members, and we have great environment that allows you to produce work to the highest standard capable


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Be prepared to learn, and listen as much as anything. Go in to the job with an open mind, and dont shy away from a challenge.
