  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a structural degree apprentice. As part of the structures team I fulfil a primarily technical duties on projects such as creating 3d models and drawings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills. These include working with colleagues internationally, improving my management skills, lots of mathematical knowhow. I have a better understanding of how structures and designed, constructed and used alongside many other things.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program is great. It allows me to socialise with similar individuals while also developing as an engineer.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is fairly well structured. It can get tough sometimes in regards to amount of content/ tasks and time management but this is all part of the process

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive loads of support from my employer. I am regularly checked up on to see how I'm getting on. When I need more time to focus on uni the company allows me to take 'study days' that allow me to catch up which helps massively.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from the training provider is adequate but could be structured better.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Since my role is quite specific only few modules directly impact my role however having a broader understanding of the industry is still massively beneficial in day to day function.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads of extra curricular activities to get involved in. These range from weekly football and netball games to sports days to theatre trips to pub socials. There is always something to get involved in.

  • Yes

  • Mott MacDonald is a fantastic company that respects your work-life balance and makes you feel appreciated. The people at Mott MacDonald are all amazing and a pleasure to work with. Management listen to concerns and progression and development are prioritised for all colleagues.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Work hard to gain knowledge and skills in the role you want to have. Be confident in yourself and always put yourself forward for opportunities even if they seem daunting!
