  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Each day of the week Mon-Fri is involved in a timetable of classes at college. The first half of the week has been focussed on achieving our PEO and the second half is academic work to achieve our HNC for Engineering Systems. The academics involve, mathematic studies as well as general engineering units.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Working on our PEO has provided me additional skills within the workshop experience. This is relative to multiple forms of equipment and tools, such as the lathe or guillotine. The use of the hand tools have been developed from the use of various tools and the techniques of using them.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This apprenticeship programme is providing me practical and academic training to allow me to develop. These skills will be used in the future years when working on site and in the real world working scenarios. The programme has also included a skills development course within the Outward Bounds which was good and allowed us to get to know our fellow apprentices from different departments within the company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The general structure of the course has a good process but may require better coordination between the company and the college for a small number of students that have completed certain courses. This would be to ensure that the students are continuously learning. After a bit of time they have managed to arrange to cover the empty timetabled space situations, although, it is stated for the student to use time in library to catch up or revise work otherwise.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer is open for discussion if any support is required. Through the need of learning support, the employer and the college make sure that all support is provided to ensure the learning ability of the student/employee is maintained to ensure that I am able to continue working well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider allows for continuous discussions, by arranging weekly/fortnightly meetings to keep up to date with how my process is going. This is to make sure that the lecturers provide a clear teaching process and that I am understanding what I am to do with my work. If any further support is required, that is discussed and arranged where needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is helping to provide the basic foundational knowledge and skills necessary to work in my role. The qualification has been provided with good additional modules that are relative to my role which will assist me for the completion of the programme onto the achievement of a position in the company.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am unsure if there are any extra curriculum activities provided at work. If there is, it should maybe be notified to the new employees better which will provide them a chance to join in and get to know their colleagues within the company better. This will assist the cooperation between departments.
