I am currently in charge of the day-day running of a tundish bay operation. I am also in charge of refractory materials at my works area.
I have learnt many valuable skills required for a manager/leader such as time management, people skills, interpersonal communication and delegation.
I have enjoyed many aspects of the programme, but, mostly I've enjoyed the willingness of my higher management team to leave me run an area. Of course there was help if needed but I believe this exposure and sense of responsibility and ownership has been outstanding for my personal development.
There could be improvements to the structure which I have discussed with my manager. However the overall programme has been very well structured and organised.
I have learnt that there is always help at hand as long as you ask for it.
I didn't enjoy the Advanced Manufacturing Operations that I partly studied at UWTSD. Having previously studied and obtained a degree I have previous experience at attending lectures. I thought the lecturing UWTSD was poor and has very little to do with my Refractory Engineering apprenticeship.
I don't think it does, I have learnt very little from UWTSD.
Yes there is plenty of activities to take part in outside of work and I feel a part of the Tata Community.
Yes
Having only been in the company for 18 months and now being in charge of a bay is something which I did not foresee. It goes to show that if you show willing to learn and strive to succeed then you will be given opportunities within the company.
Do not be afraid to ask for help, there is vast levels of knowledge on site and most people are more than happy to help.
