  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of providing mechanical engineering solution to a variety of different projects in different sectors by producing drawings, reports, 3D thermal models and more deliverables. My duties also include surveying building sites to identify issues or to find solutions which cant be solved within an office environment.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • New skills I developed was the ability to use various software's to produce designs, I also improved my mathematical and problem solving skills from what I already knew as well as developing my ability to work as a part of a team effectively.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the challenge of different project since they all come with their own ideas, issues and development and being able to be a part of a wider spectrum to collectively achieve something together is an aspect I enjoy.

  • My programme is very well organised with a clear outline on how i need to develop at work also in what i must achieve externally within education

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive great support within work and not in just regards to my employment but in my educational career and my wellbeing also.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive decent support in my education, when I need additional help in certain aspects of my equalisations modules however I would prefer to have more time to complete assignments other than my day release as it can prove stressful when there are work and college deadlines.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me understand the theory and fundamentals of my role rather than just the action of doing so. With computer aiding our work its possible to have results and calculations which may be incorrect and having a deeper understanding improves my ability in the work place.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • While there aren't many sports teams or regular social activities, there is frequent networking events where we are able to meet new people within the industry outside a work environment.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Troup Bywaters + Anders to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe Troup Bywaters provides a great starting point into the world of building services, its not such a huge organisation where your not able to make mistakes or not see senior members of staff. Everyone works closely together making one of the best for development


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Troup Bywaters + Anders?
  • I would advise that you understand the role you are applying for and what it contains in terms of its heavily maths and physics based and to take a great interest into engineering in order to want to learn more and develop better as an engineer.
