  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed from being very unconfident when talking to patients to now being very confident and chatty. I also developed clinical skills such as learning how to use equipment such as a stats machine and heart monitor also carrying out a blood sugar check and taking someones blood pressure.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my time at wokingham hospital as the staff really supported me and make me so much more comfortable with the environment and interacting with the patients. It was a good place to start my placement as it gave me a chance to work on my skills in a smaller environment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There was not really any structure i would just go with the flow each placement day and see what had to be done but it worked well that way as i could hover around different wards and bays to choose what skills i want to work on and learn what each member does

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Loads of support all the staff really supported me and made sure i was comfortable with what i was doing and explained every procedure in detail so i could learn from it. They also where able to have a laugh with me and let me enjoy my time with them

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I didn't really receive much support but i always knew i could reach out to them for any questions or anything i felt uncomfortable about but it was mostly the staff that supported me while i was there. I did receive a tick list of skills i needed to have done.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Very well i would not have been able to perform well in my role without it as i would be quite and reluctant to help as i wouldn’t want to be in the way. Also i would not know the basic skills to help me such as simply changing a bed

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No i wasn’t but i was only at placement one day a week so i didn’t really have a chance i did used to join staff in the dining room at lunch and chat but never out of placement although they do have social gatherings such as bowling

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it was a very supportive environment where you felt like a valid member of the team and everyone wanted to help you learn and build up your skills yo make sure that you are prepared for a work environment and nothing was to much to ask for help with

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • I would say be confident don’t feel as though you are constantly in the way just try to join in and ask if you can help or shadow what someone is doing to help you learn and try to communicate with patients as much as possible to build communication skills
