  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role consists of liaising with clients to understand their needs, then presenting this information to the insurer & negotiating the best deal for the client. I handle renewals, new business & any mid-term amendments that need making to clients insurance policies. The classes of business I deal with include property owners, tradesman, offices & shops.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My apprenticeship has allowed me to complete the Certificate in Insurance which is the first qualification. Studying for these exams has allowed me to develop my knowledge of the insurance market & learn about things I might not often come across in my day to day role. I have developed my communication skills through speaking to clients & insurers whether it be over the phone or via email.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme very much so as it complimented my day to day role well. My coach also provided me with an external point of contact for any queries that arose through doing my day to day role. I would definitely recommend the programme to any other school leaver.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured, the third party training provider have a website which contains a portal, on here all the tasks to do are split into months so you can work through them a month at a time. My coach sent me reminders if anything needed doing to keep me on track.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I received from my employer was good. Whenever I was quiet in my day to day role I would put my laptop on do not disturb and crack on with studying for the exams & this wasn't an issue. When sitting the exams I was able to take the time off for free as opposed to booking annual leave.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider offered lots of training workshops for the various different exams I sat, my coach would also be happy to answer any questions I had whilst working through the study texts. My training provider sent me lots of past papers to help practice for the exams. The support was very good.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My insurance practitioner & Cert CII qualifications have provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge to succeed in my job role. I've developed an understanding of the different classes of business, the principles of insurance etc, meaning when I am given a new task in my day to day role I already have some prior knowledge.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some networking groups although I can't say I have joined any. There aren't any sports teams that I'm aware of. We do go on social activities as a team however. At the end of the apprenticeship programme we were invited to Lloyd's London for a networking event which was good.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend Aon to any school leavers unsure about whether to do an apprenticeship or university. Aon pay for you to do qualifications & support you by offering training sessions etc. At the end of your apprenticeship in addition to industry recognised qualifications you have on the job experience, which is something you wouldn't have going to uni.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • In terms of applying for the apprenticeship scheme, I would say if you have any prior part time work in a customer facing role, play on this as much as you can. If you are applying for a position where you will be speaking to clients, the interviewer wants to see you have inter-personal skills.
