  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • on a day to day it can vary. we do placements in various departments and learn new skills. sometimes we can shadow other associates until we are comfortable enough to work independently. we get given projects to work on which are really fun and challenging. you get a good name for yourself by creating a work piece that impresses people

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have learnt many skills since working for RR. i developed my sewing skills by learning to work with new materials such as leather. also using new industrial machines which i hadnt used before. you get to work on your communication and confidence skills too as you communicate with several associates. i also started to learn metal work which i hadnt done before using saws and lathes.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i have had a rollercoaster of an experience. some days can be bad some days can be amazing. overall everyone i have met from my role has been very supportive when i have not enjoyed my time and work on developing the apprenticeship to cater to our needs. overall i do enjoy the apprenticeship

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • there are mixed emotions about this. personally i go to college two days a week and the factory three days a week. when it comes to placements we organize them ourselves so sometimes that can become messy when we are unsure on where everyone is. some people may have a better experience

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • we have various support functions at rolls. we have our apprentice advisor who is always around for help, she does look after many apprentices so sometimes it can be hard to get a hold of her but there are other people we can go to such as mentors or trainers. we have our general mangers too who are always willing to listen to us

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] particular is a great help. he is our tutor and gives us unconditional support with anything. sometime sthe communication between rolls and the provider can be hard considering we have do our exam at our work place is can be hard to tell what specifications we need to reach as theres new courses

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • sometimes i do not see the relevance to to our course to work life. but as Rolls royce is very specific and bespoke it would be hard to have a course dedicated to rolls with an IQA recognised qulaification. when we learn about lean techniques and mechanisims its beneficial but the practical time is hard to relate

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are social activities organised by apprentices. these are not compulsory. they are a great time to socialise and get to know each other outside of work pressure and responsibility. only a quater of apprentices actually turn up so i think having sonething during work time to socialise will be way more beneficial
