  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a daily basis, my role consists of sending out daily reports of finance figures for the previous day for all categories. This is important as it is a large email sent out to finance, CD and marketing of over 1000 people. After this has completed, I can then carry out my day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The main skill I have learnt is how important clear and consistent communication is for Unilever. Whenever I am connecting with other members I make it my best effort to be able to help or point them in the right direction if not relevant to me. I have been told I am great at this.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme I am on because even though I am sat in the finance department, I am able to then venture into the DNA team as well. This gives me two different departments were I can test my skills and learn.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. The first few months of my programme was mainly learning provided by multiverse in the form of calls and virtual boot camps. After that I began work for my portfolio in the form of small projects which had to meet set KSBs by them.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from Unilever in my apprenticeship. Every single week I had a day dedicated to my apprenticeship work, this allows me to then be able to take time away from my job role without having to worry about hindering the business. My line managers support me too!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has provided a lot of alternative methods of support in the range of documents on their website and I also had a coach who I would have 1 to 1 sessions with to enable to track my progress and ensure that I was not falling behind on progress.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification allows me to explore tools which the finance role will be needing in the near future. This makes learning worthwhile as I know that it will be relevant to the job roles on offer in the future, and with the qualification it evidences my work being valid to this.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have been able to participate in the great walk which is a yearly event hosted by Unilever. It is a marathon around London which is on offer to all UK Unilever workers. The aim is to raise money for a select charity but is also a fun day out.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Unilever has been a great first step into my world of work and has gave me a good insight of what work would look like in the finance industry. They have been able to offer me many different experiences so far and are a very fair employer for apprentices.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • I would advise anyone applying to make sure you do a bit of research before as it is always good to know what you are applying for. Be yourself - do not try to fit in but be different as that is how I was able to apply.
