  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes shadowing the day and shift staff to learn their jobs and to gain my knowledge to progress.

    6/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, my problem solving skills have advanced so highly since starting here as well as my confidence in myself.

    8/10

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do thoroughly enjoy my programme. In some cases, it can be really quiet and it feels as though I need more tasks to do.

    7/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the start it was very well structured, but as TATA is currently in the midst of saving money, the structure has crumbled a bit.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From the Technologists and Shift Team I am given so much support, senior leadership not so much.

    4/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Competency based, I was 3/4 the way signed off by 4 months into my rotation.

    8/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At the minute, the qualification I am doing is 50/50. The NVQ in laboratory technicians is very valuable and tests my knowledge on the industry, however the HNC is applied chemistry. I have not really applied this to my day-to-day work.

    5/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I am aware of.

    5/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Tata Steel to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes and no. I find that in periods of struggle, the area is harder to work in and organisation is tough.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tata Steel?
  • It is enjoyable as long as you make it enjoyable. Bond with everyone. You are all a team. You are not just an apprentice in the corner. Remove the stigma.
