  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role at First Response Finance is an Accounts Assistant. On a day to day basis I focus on applying things like settlements to customer agreements, paying invoices to suppliers and working on the bank statements for each day. In addition I also work on co managing the electric vehicle scheme. I am new to the role so still learning lots each day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout my first year and a half at First Response Finance I have learnt a wide range of skills that have helped me to not only do my daily job but also help me complete my university assignments and complete things in my free time. Since starting in my accounts role I have taken on an excel course where I learnt a range of basic skills but also advanced excel skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Here at First Response Finance they value their employees massively. I am really enjoying completing my degree apprenticeship here at First Response Finance as I feel like a valued member of the team and my learning is a main focus of my team leaders. The degree is also an exciting part of my job as it allows me to think about different arears of the business.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My degree apprenticeship program here at First Response Finance is very organised and follows a good structure to ensure all our needs are met. Here at First Response Finance each apprentice has quarterly review meetings to keep on track with how their progress is doing and we also have frequent touch in sessions with our mentors so we can ask questions regardig our assignments and also ask for any support if we need it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • First Response Finance offers their employees a wide range of support and their apprentices receive even more. As stated above, First Response Finance's apprenticeship program follows a well maintained structure of quarterly meetings and more frequent check in sessions to make sure their apprentices are coping well with the degree and work load and if they require any help or support they can provide it for them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • First Response Finance currently use Sheffield Hallam university as their degree apprenticeship training provider. Throughout the year and half I have been completing my degree at Sheffield Hallam I have received a decent amount of support from them. The support ranges from assignment support for when you are stuck with the assignment or have a question regarding it, to offering extra feedback when you want to understand why you got a certain grade and what more you can do to improve in the future.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My current degree with Sheffield Hallam university has benefitted me in work so far really well. Having the opportunity to learn a wide range of different topics within the course including marketing, human resources, finance and operational strategy has helped me develop my knowledge and skills further as well as being able to work within a company where you have the opportunity to spend time with different departments to further your understanding.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Here at First Response Finance there are a wide range of different extra curricular activities to get involved in. These range from being able to go on college visits to discuss the apprenticeship that First Response Finance offers and speak with other teenagers about their choices after school but also have the chance to take part in charity events for the local community.

  • Yes

  • I would thoroughly recommend First Response Finance to a friend or family member because they are a great company to work for. They value all of their employees and offer great support to make sure they all do well but also are able to constantly improve their skills. They also encourage team building days to help work on relationships within your departments to ensure your day at work is a comfortable environment to work in with people you can speak to,


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to First Response Finance Limited?
  • There are many tips and advice someone can offer to a person when applying for a job but the main ones I have come across since working at First Response Finance is to be yourself. You don't want to paint a false picture of who you are to you employer as you ant to be able to work feeing comfortable and yourself. Also be prepared and research the role so you can discuss what you are applying for and link it with your interests and hobbies, that will show why you would be good for the role and that you would enjoy doing it.
