  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have a key leadership role in my team and work as a specialist senior health visitor. 80% of my work is with our service users and I carry a caseload. I am involved in delivering the health child programme to our clients with evidence based practice.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to do project management and use the tools. Problem solving, decision making, time management. Leading and managing a team. Building a high performing team. Improved my self awareness and communication skills. Understanding of finance, governance and operational management.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The tutor we had at the beginning of the course did not clarify everything and was unsure what I should be doing. The tutor we had subsequently Sandra Baker, was an inspirational, supportive tutor and gave me the tools to help my shine. It have really developed my leadership.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our tutor left at the beginning of the course and all the participants felt quite overwhelmed with all the work that was still to be covered. Once Sandra took over it was very well organised and structured and would give her a 10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My boss was my mentor and gave me lots of support when she could, however she was not allocated protected time for this. I also struggled to get protected time, particularly as we were short of staff and it was during the Covid-19 pandemic in the NHS

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was fantastic support and gave all the relevant resources to be able to qualify. She gave constructive critism for my assignments . She also supported me with my End Point Assessment and showcasing the best parts in my portfolio. She went above and beyond.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I can evidence how well it has helped my as during the course I was promoted from health visitor to senior practitioner health visitor. Yesterday I was interviewed for a District Team Manager position and got the job due to how I evidenced my leadership skills from this training.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have participated in a Landsend to John O Groats team steps challenge. We competing with other teams in the trust and came 5th out of 50 teams. In my team we are also going to attend the 75th year NHS anniversary park run

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I was entered into a talent pool and given the opportunity to complete this apprenticeship. This had allowed my to progress in my career and have opened up promotion and other opportunities for me. Senior management are interested in our wellbeing and we feel listened to.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • They are one of the biggest Trusts in the NHS and are a foundation trust. Their core values, and vision are a big part of the organisational culture and staff have a sense of pride. Hard work, and motivation is rewarded and you will feel valued.
