  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Work on a variety of exciting cyber projects providing services like risk management, SOC etc. Daily responsibilities include client-facing and internal meetings, completion of any project work in time for a deadline, completing a weekly timesheet to log hours of different work and sending and replying of emails to relevant recipients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There are always opportunities to develop new or acquired skills at CGI. I was able to develop my communication and teamwork skills by working closely with my peers/leads on project work. I have also been able to develop new skills like leadership by leading meetings internally and client meetings.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • CGI has given me opportunities I would not have been able to do if I had gone the usual university route. Along with university I am able to apply my learning to my work. Overall, I have enjoyed the degree apprenticeship with CGI and believe I am being invested in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is overall a well structured university and work programme. I spend 20% of the working week at university completing my degree and the rest working for CGI. There is a variety of modules I take at university that fall in line with the work that I do at CGI.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • CGI provides its members with a good amount of support throughout the entire apprenticeship. They are aware you are working at the same time as studying a degree and will listen to your feedback and help with any issues that arise, for example needing more time to finish an assignment.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university runs quarterly meetings for you to update them on how your learning is going, what modules you are completing and any concerns you want to raise. Module leaders are available for meetings to discuss the content, they also provide feedback on summative assignments so that you can improve for next time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The pathway you choose is specialised and relevant to your role at CGI. The modules on your course will support you in your role, for example, a Cyber Security Consultant will learn about risk management. The learning you gain from these modules, you can apply to your work at CGI.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • CGI provides a wide variety of events their Members can attend. There is a Sports and Social Club that Members can join to run/attend social events with their peers. There is also professional networking events, including ones for those in early careers to meet with professionals in the industry.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • Research CGI as much as possible to understand their values, dream, vision and mission and to make sure they are the right apprenticeship/workplace for you. Be yourself throughout the process including application and interviews showing what your passionate about and showing that you have a strive to learn and develop yourself.
