  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role is to assist the fee earners with client related matters. This could be attending client meetings, drafting legal documents, communicating with clients regarding their matter or communicating with externals for example the insurance companies on behalf of the client. We can hybrid working so I work from home and in the office. Sometimes I am light on work but I use this time to study.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to draft several legal documents and tailor them to the client needs. This requires certain words and phrases to be used which I have learnt over time. Speaking to clients and other externals has improved my professional communication skills. Lastly, working for seveal people means you have to organise and manage your time well to meet the needs of everyone and move things around if an urgent task comes up.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My team gave me one day off a week to complete my studies. I had 6 week meeting with my coach to go over the work I have submitted and ask her any questions. If I had any in the meantime I could just drop her an email or ask for another team meetings. They were always happy to help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I had 6 week meetings with my coach and in some modules met with my teacher every 2 weeks. It is very independant learning so if you are not motived to complete the work you will not have anyone following up with you. I could email my coach any questions I had and I got a responce quickly. I was given quite a bit of informaiton at the start which was overwhelming but once I got going I started to understand it better. My exam body, CILEx, do not release any passpapers which I found difficult as I was not sure what to expect with the exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I got to learn about my area of law which helped me grow my knowledge in my day to day job. It helped me expand on my soft skills like communication and time mangement. We had 12 modules to help develop our skills which is required when being a paralegal. Alongside our modules I learnt about my area of law.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a Christmas party and other socials in the year like meals, teambuilding and away days. We normally go and celebrate the end of the tax year. As a team we are quite close which is nice. There is not a massive budget for social events so normally you have to pay for them yourself minus the Christmas party.
