  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • A Junior Management Consultant at IBM is a entry-level position that provides support to senior consultants and clients in the implementation of business solutions. The role involves working with clients to understand their needs and develop strategies to improve their business operations and processes. On a day-to-day basis, the tasks of a Junior Management Consultant may include: Conducting research and data analysis to gather information about a client's business operations and challenges. Collaborating with senior consultants to develop recommendations and solutions for clients. Communicating findings and recommendations to clients, including presenting findings and reports in both written and verbal form. Supporting the implementation of business solutions, including working with clients to establish project plans, monitor progress, and resolve any issues that arise. Continuously improving skills through learning and development opportunities, such as training programs, workshops, and attending conferences. Building relationships with clients and establishing a strong understanding of their needs and business objectives.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a of business essential skills along with technical skills to help develop my career progression. I have developed the following: Problem-solving skills: You will learn how to identify complex business problems and develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of clients. Analytical skills: You will develop the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to make informed recommendations and support decision-making. Communication and presentation skills: You will need to be able to articulate complex concepts to a non-technical audience, and present recommendations and solutions in a clear and compelling manner. Project management skills: You will learn how to manage projects from start to finish, including developing project plans, monitoring progress, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is extremely enjoyable and the opportunities within IBM are endless. There are plenty of social and networking opportunities which are great especially when you first join the company. This helps you explore the possible opportunities within the company and allow you to touch base with future team members. Especially now that we have a new office there are always great things going on.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has a great structure and this may partly be down to IBM being accredited provider of the apprenticeship. There are plenty of learning opportunities, practical tasks and experiences that you need to carry out in order to complete the apprenticeship. Each apprentice has a structured road map which helps to keep them focussed and understand the requirements

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The apprenticeship network at IBM is set up in a way to support the apprentices with everything! There are plenty of team members who run the apprenticeship called your Foundation Managers who are always on hand to help out with anything you may be struggling with. The apprenticeship is well thought out and every individual has access to all the help and support they may need.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is a lot of support available that IBM provide when working towards completing the Apprenticeship qualification. These include things such as regular chats, structure courses, access to recent successors who are able to impart knowledge from their experience and provide tips and tricks to help even further. All in all there is enough support to help you succeed and there is always help if you are struggling, IBM are very understanding and supportive.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The apprenticeship helps massively to help you success when you leave the apprenticeship scheme. This is because you are able to gain hands-on experience, due to the on-the-job training, which provides the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. You are also able to develop practical skills through the combination of classroom instruction and practical experience, as an apprentice you can develop a wide range of skills that are directly applicable to your future career and success.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of extra curricular activities to get involved in. Depending on which project you are on, there are also project specific social events as well. Generally, depending on where you sit in the business there are always Department socials to get involved in but there are also events such as networking which happen frequently.

  • Yes

  • The IBM apprenticeship is a very fun scheme that provides individuals with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop practical skills, and build relationships with experienced professionals. You are given the opportunity to work on real projects and contribute to meaningful work, which provides a competitive advantage in their careers.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • When applying make sure you do a lot of research on the company and their current focus in the key areas such as Cloud and Artificial Intelligence. But at all times make sure you are yourself and ask questions throughout. It's important not to stress too much as this will impact your performance
