  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis my work as technical seller in the cloud team means I get to work in a role that is people- facing. My responsibilities include, but are not limited to pricing and sizing IBM cloud according to client needs. I also present back to stakeholders, both internal and external (clients/ partners), with recommended solutions and prices. I also work closely with the sales team to meet client needs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed new skills of event planning, something I did not have experience with before joining IBM, by getting involved with planning location based events. I have developed existing skills of presenting, as it is part of my daily role. I also have grown my skills in programming, specifically in python. Above all, I have learnt knew technical skills in regards to IBM cloud, such as pricing and provisioning services.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my degree apprenticeship a lot, much more than I even expected myself to. Personally, interacting with new people from different backgrounds and different teams everyday is the favourite part of my job. I also love the fact that no 2 days are the same, every day is a new challenge which pushes me to learn faster. I enjoy the technicality and hands- on practicality of the program. IBM's culture is the best place for me to grow.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is very well structured, as it is well organised which gives apprentices the reassurance that they are being taken care of, but also has flexibility for us to take control of our careers and be the stewards of our own future. The degree side is also well split into 6 week modules.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive ample support from my employer. I am never feeling left out of the loop, or as if the team is speeding ahead without me. My team, though rightfully very busy themselves choose to spend time teaching me about IBM offerings and make sure I am up to speed. I always have a good amount of work to get busy with, as well as learning material. Also IBM prioritises wellbeing, so IBM helps maintain a good work life balance and ask for help when needs be.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I receive from my training provider is completely independent of IBM. The support given by my training provider is passable and necessary resources are available to us when needs be. However, the university does not proactively reach out to build relation with students or ask to help with anything. That being said, I know who to contact when struggling.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • the qualification i am studying towards does help me to perform better in my role as a lot of the uni modules directly correlate to skills I see myself needing for my daily job. For example at uni we recently had a python programming module, and I was also tasked with programming a billing tool for my day job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes we have many giveback opportunities, such as a presentation practice club to improve our public speaking. There is a wellbeing community. There are also business resource groups such as the Black Asian Minority Ethnic community. I am planning a networking event with an external company and have organised a pensions lunch n learn event too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The culture at IBM is incomparable; every person I have come across is so ready to help and wants to see you grow. The business pushes you to learn and develop as a person, while also giving chances to shine with opportunities like client meetings. IBM is somewhere where a person's curiosity can blossom.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • Be you. Don't try to fit into to something you think IBM wants to see. Let your passion for technology shine through. Skills can be learnt and knowledge can be taught but passion and ambition comes from within. Also, network big. Talk to anyone and everyone from IBM and build rapport before even joining IBM, be a name everyone knows.
