  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as Reception Supervisor involves managing the onsite Reception team, and also acting as a deputy to the Facilities Manager. I am line manager to two Receptionists, and am therefore responsible for recruitment and selection, line management, appraisals and reviews, any grievances, and management of their workload. I also am responsible for constructing writing the operational procedures for our department, and oversee many elements in the best interest of the whole organisation, such as meeting room booking and desk booking.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel I have learned quite a few new skills during my current time on this apprenticeship. I have learned new management skills and techniques, especially in regard to structures to use when carrying out reviews, and how to delegate more effectively. I do feel I have developed my pre-existing skills hugely.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme. My tutor works closely with me to ensure I am content with the work, both the content and the pace, and provides me with a lot of different materials in different formats to enhance my studies. I find the work genuinely interesting, and have enjoyed researching different topics and writing these assignments.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the programme is very well structured. I work with my tutor to decide which modules to do at which times, which allows me to link those assignments into the work I am currently undertaking. The assignment briefs are clear and concise, and give me a really good idea of what content is expected from me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive, and always does best by me to enable me to complete my qualification successfully. I am given weekly study time, and my manager is very understanding if I do require extra off-the-job hours some weeks in order to ensure work is completed on time. I have been given a lot of in-house training opportunities to support my programme also.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider - namely my tutor - when working towards my qualification. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been incredibly helpful, and has always given me plenty of encouragement and a diverse range of materials to help me complete my assignments and work towards my qualification. The organisation as a whole are also very supportive.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel my qualification is massively helping me to perform better in my role. I have learnt many new tricks and techniques as a manager, and I regularly assess ways in which I can apply these techniques into my role. I was very new to management prior to starting this course, however my learning has helped me to feel more confident in my abilities.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some extra-curricular activities I am able to get involved in at work. Our directorate frequently organises social gatherings outside of work, and the organisation also hold staff events that give all staff an opportunity to network. I myself do not choose to partake in many activities at this time.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I am unsure whether this question is asking whether I recommend my workplace company, or my training provider company, however I would recommend both. My workplace is an incredibly friendly and progressive place to work, and my training provider have been very thorough and supportive in helping me achieve my qualification.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • Again, I'm unsure whether this is referring to my workplace or my training provider. However, if it's in regard to my training provider - I think the main advice I would give is just go for it. I was incredibly nervous applying to study again, as I hadn't done so in a while, however I have received so much support and have had a genuinely good time learning.
