My apprenticeship consisted of a rotational year in which i worked within a variety of operational based departments here at the LME, in which i was able to massively bolster my knowledge of the LME and my practical skills. I commonly performed BAU tasks but was also frequently given the opportunity to progress and perform other tasks such as tackling client queries, inputting and becoming more and more involved with project work.
Being in a role whereby you are introduced to so many new people both internally and externally i would say that my communication skills have massively improved. There has been a ton of new skills which i have picked up and these mostly relate to the daily tasks that i perform.
Although there was stressful points during the course of my apprenticeship, i am so happy that i took the decision to complete it. I have learnt invaluable knowledge and practical skills, other qualifications and met countless people that i would now consider to be a friend. I would recommend this apprenticeship to anyone.
The programme was extremely well-structured, however, i really like the fact that it also retained some flexibility, when i found spare time whether that be at work or at home i completed excess study that allowed me to pass my exams sooner, additionally as the apprenticeship is coursework based you are able to work ahead of schedule to bolster your portfolio.
Every time that i had a request for support those within my company were on hand to support me. Whether this was work, exam or coursework related my colleagues would provide me with support that allowed me to truly understand the concept of the query after an in depth explanation.
Similar to my colleagues, my training provider and more specifically the tutor which i had were always on hand to help me with any queries that i had exam and/or coursework related. My skills tutor was extremely kind, helpful and approachable every with issues or concerns that were not work related.
My qualification that i gained through my apprenticeship has opened my eyes to areas that i may have previously overlooked. The detail in which you are required to look into different areas is great as it really pushes you to incorporate examples of such in your daily work and to overall be a better colleague.
I have represented my company at a charity football tournament. There are often entire company after work drinks in which you get the opportunity to speak to those who you may not get to speak to daily. There is a golf society in addition to countless other sports/social teams and clubs. Truly something for everyone.
Yes
I have enjoyed my time so far at the LME more than i could have imagined at the start. Not only have a gained well-regarded industry qualifications alongside my Investment Operations Technician qualification but i have met countless people than i would now regards as mates. The opportunity for progression is clear and i have now been made a permanent member of staff. I look forward to every day at work.
Be someone who you would like to work alongside. Make sure that you do your research on the LME, its history, products that it offers and anything that may be currently circulating in the news. Dress formally and conduct yourself in an appropriate manner during interviews/open days. Have notes on what to say but do not read them directly.
