  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • During a typical day I work on various tickets that are within the sprint in different projects (both internal and client projects). I am able to be a part of a team. I usually attend meetings like standups where I am able to discuss what I have accomplished and completed the previous day, as well as if I am experiencing any blockers with regards to my current ticket.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt quite a lot since starting this degree apprenticeship, especially to topics relating to frontend and backend development. For example, I was able to learn how to develop applications in React and Node JS. I was able to apply these skills on many projects at work in addition to my assessments at university. Moreover, at university I was able to learn and develop with the programming languages: Java and Python.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy this program as I am able to rotate around different projects and conduct various activities such as development, requirements, wireframes, etc. As a result of this, I was able to gain new skills which helped me in other projects, as well as in university assessments and projects.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe that the programme I am in currently is very structured as in each year we were told what the expectations were when at work in addition to university (modules that would be taken). In the first year of the programme, I was given an induction which introduced the company, as well as what training and support I would receive through the entire course (buddies/mentors).

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I believe there is a lot of support from my employer. As stated before, in the first year there was a lot support given as I was brand-new to a working environment (just came out of sixth form) and was introduced to the company, as well as what support I would receive through the entire course (buddies/mentors).

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe I receive adequate amount of support from my training provider. For example, I think that during lectures people are able to ask questions if they need help or clarification on certain topics. Additionally, if you need support when you feel like you are overwhelmed by exams and deadlines, the university (and work) are able to support you.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification, through my training provider, helps me perform better in my role because of the content taught at university. For example, certain modules have taught me transferable development skills like procedural programming and object-orientated programming. These various modules taught at university allowed me to utilise the new development skills in a variety of projects.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a lot for extra-curricular activities to get involved with at work. There are a lot of sporting teams like football clubs and they host events to recruit more team members and see what the clubs are like. In addition to this, there are various networking events that employees can attend to talk to and socialise with different employees in other departments within the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend KPMG because of the big growth I have undertaken from my first year up until present. KPMG have allowed me to expand my skills greatly through contributing in different projects, as well as employees supporting me through my journey thus far (whether it be at work within a project setting or help with university).

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • I would recommend looking into the values that KPMG uphold as a firm as well as expecting their employees to act upon on their daily activities. In addition to this, I think assessment days are great to meet current employees and gauge their opinions/views on their experience with the company thus far.
