  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Audit Technology Delivery and have specialised in Power Apps and the Power Platform so spend a lot of time using data from various sources across the business to create dashboards and visuals to show to management. These dashboards are accessed across the firm and we continue to create new features for them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a new skill in the form of dashboard development and data handling/processing and using metrics to make business decisions. In addition to this i have also developed my programming and logic skills as code is often needed to process data and create new features so has come into play a lot.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed the flexibility of moving through various teams in the business. I was a part of the data analytics team before i moved into tech. Both teams i have been a part of have been extremely welcoming and accepting of my skill levels and out of work commitments (study leave etc). The company and apprenticeship teams have also been very supportive throughout by providing advice and also coach calls with BPP themselves.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From the KPMG side of things there is a lot of organisation and plan in place for our apprenticeship. There is a lot of support available as well as events for apprentices and a lot of catering in terms of our study leave in regard to work. However, from the BPP side of things there is often a lot of miscommunication or a lack of communication in general. We often dont hear about major changes to the timetable or apprenticeship in general until very late or as something is happening.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a lot of support not only from the KPMG apprenticeship teams but also from individual teams in the firm. They are very supportive of any needs I have within my working life or are catering to anything outside of this in terms of my study leave. I am always pointed in the right direction should they not have the support available at a specific time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • 90% of lecturers at BPP are very helpful when answering questions or conducting online webinars and even answering emails/forums outside of this time. There is a lot of content available on the VLE (online library) which is relevant to the course. They have also invested time into changing the assessment structure which i much prefer at this time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Many of the modules i have completed are partially relevant to my working life and some of them directly correlate. We have received training not only on work-based issues and solutions but also on technical aspects of our roles as apprentices which can be directly applied in day to day work life.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are often events firmwide, although these are usually London-based so are difficult to attend for someone who works in the North like myself. My local office has events for networking as well as charity events within the office. Teams have Xmas meals/events individually and often host football or racing tournaments.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel very supported and appreciated in my role, more so moving forward into my apprenticeship and future at the firm. I feel appreciated not only by my peers but also occasionally upper management. I believe that i am paid very fairly and know of the benefits that are to come as i work my way through my KPMG career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • I would advise anyone to go in with an open mind, especially into the tech-based apprenticeships as i had an idea as to what kind of career i wanted to shape and quickly realised the limitations in this. I had time in a few different teams before i found myself somewhere i was very comfortable and now am really enjoying honing in on particular skills and really feel valued.
