  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Civil engineer, I complete a multitude of tasks and activities. I am currently I am processing data form multiple sources, collating the data across multiple files and sheets and completing Calculations for the Models I have made. This involves a mix of hand calculations, Data processing and software usage.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills through University, work and training courses. I have been enrolled on many in company programmes on a wide array of skills, ranging from health and safety, to interpersonal skills on communication and time management. I am also well trained on various software's for modelling, calculations and management.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I highly enjoy this programme as It has put me in a great me position for the future. The Team has been very welcoming and accommodating, always willing to help me with new skills. Its much greater than I expected, coming out of college, It was a change of atmosphere which I highly enjoy.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The University while being overall being organised in the long run, has had some issues with communication around certain deadlines and tasks, during term. However, the lecturers are very willing to help, offer great support and typically have great time management and organisational skills, that has made the course run very smooth.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has offered lots of support and help. I have been enrolled on many courses to better myself automatically, while if I ask to do other courses and attend development webinars and events, I have been allowed each time. My manager is is always available, and solves issues quickly and effectively. During a time of struggle, from external events, I contacted someone to talk, who was great at listening and offering advise, and I have attended talking therapy, on a company scheme, which greatly helped.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have had regular meetings with my personal tutor on my progress and They where always asking about my out of work commitments to allow a balanced life and help with time management. Some tutors had to adjust the way they approached timings as we are only part time not full time, not overall most were easily contacted.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Through work managing my project tasks and my manager lining up tasks, I have been able to complete tasks as I study them in university. For example, During my structures and materials, I have been completing calculations for a simple structure using different beams and testing different materials available for design.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The sports and social committee has a great planning schedule of summer meals, Sports events between offices and individual office events in the local area. There are individual sporting events organised weekly within teams, for example participating in a local football league. as well as environmental initiatives about looking after the local area.

  • Yes

  • The team where very welcoming and everyone is willing to help and push you forward in your career. The company offers great career prospects, and chances to excel in new areas, as well as boasting a very competitive salary, with bi annual reviews, and the onboarding team are kind and efficient.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Just go for it, Its an amazing opportunity and will set you up for a long career. The interview and application may seem daunting, but the interviewees just want you succeed, so don't be scared, be yourself and you will do great. Have a passion and show your worth.
