  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to help out on any tasks that need doing, ranging from easy to complicated (and more involved). I roll forward workpapers and set them up using current year data, which I think set thresholds to select samples. I then send these samples off to the client and ask for efficient audit evidence to document against the samples, which involves a lot of client interaction, in the form of emails and calls.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so many new skills and knowledge, in work and in general life. One big skill that applies to the work environment and my personal life is communication and confidence. I have learnt how to communicate effectively and the importance of doing so, which has ultimately made me more confident.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my job, but it can sometimes be challenging in terms of exams. It is also difficult to juggle exams and work at the same time, since during busy season the hours of work are longer, and so this makes it harder to fit revision in when having exams but I receive a lot of support to help with this.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well organised and structured and we have a lot of continuous support to help me along the way. I have a performance manager, performance leader and have frequent BPP progress calls where I can highlight any issues I may face. Everyone in my firm are also very open and supportive and we have frequent emails sent out to explain/outline any updates in the programme. We also have a Teams channel which anyone can post for help.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from KPMG and BPP. I have frequent BPP progress calls, usually every 3-4 months and we also get sent frequent emails from BPP about support with exams etc. I can also go to my performance manager or leader, and I also have the support from my colleagues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • BPP are very helpful in providing support and guidance, especially around the time of exams. We get sent personal emails from the BPP team and can highlight any worries, issues or ask for support here. We can also reach out to BPP through the BPP hub which has a forum for the apprentices to ask questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My exams and qualification is helpful in my day to day work life, especially the level 3 exams which gave me a background of accountancy and also gave me the foundations of how accountancy works, such as debit and credits. I also think the exams are helpful in providing knowledge to certain areas of work such as tax, which the exams has helped me to understand, even if I do not work on tax at this stage in my career.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a lot of extra curricular activities and clubs available at KPMG, and we also have monthly socials with my team/department where we all go for drinks or bowling etc. There are also a lot of activities such as 'KPMG Big Walk' which involves all colleagues. There are also frequent emails from the club leaders to help us get involved in them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think KPMG is the best place to work if you want a good start to your career, as not only is it good experience for work but we are also fully supported in exams and there are also many good employee perks/benefits which KPMG provide. KPMG will support you in whatever your career involves.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • I would say to be confident and chatty and be inquisitive of the firm. I would also say that KPMG looks to employ people who are willing to strive in their career and look for people who care about their job. It is also good to be positive and cheerful.
