  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am based in the Transfer Pricing department which is within corporate tax. Day to day this involves joining client calls and taking notes, drafting various letters such as engagement letters, completing risk set up procedures, preparing reports and carrying out costing analysis. I work on a range of clients of different size and in different industries.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt technical knowledge specific to the departments I have been in which I did not know before. I have also developed existing skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation, planning and prioritisation. I have developed my communication skills through both written communications but also verbally through talking to clients and my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme and would recommend it. I have had the opportunity to experience various departments through the 360 apprenticeship and each day is different by working on different clients and a range of different tasks. Our college provider offer us a lot of support in preparing for exams.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of the programme could definitely be improved as we receive confirmation of our placements relatively close to the date of rotation so we don't get much notice of where we will be moving to. Despite this, I think the structure of the programme overall is good it could just be organised better.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All of my team are supportive and are always happy to help with any questions I have in my role. I find my team very approachable. I have a designated performance manager and performance leader that I can go to with specific issues if needed. I have also been assigned a buddy each time I join a new department.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive plenty of support from BPP when working towards qualifications. We have various steps to complete online which cover all areas of the syllabus in order to prepare us for the exam. We also have practice and apply questions and recorded sessions on all topics that we can rematch in case we need to recap on anything.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The content I have learned in my qualification isn't always applicable to the work I am completing - however some of it is. Despite this, the skills I have developed through doing my qualification have helped me to perform better in my role - such as planning and prioritisation in order to meet deadlines.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of societies and networks at KPMG to get involved with. We also have office wide socials or departmental socials frequently. We also get 6 days a year to use on corporate social responsibility activities, which can be used on various opportunities such as mock interview practice with schools.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I feel supported in my role but also challenged and pushed to be the best I can be. I find the work I do interesting and I have various opportunities through working at KPMG. There are many additional activities to get involved with and all of the teams I have worked in have been really friendly and approachable.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • Prepare for the interview by reviewing KPMG's values on their website. Also do some research on KPMG and competitors. Be confident and take all of the opportunities you can and get involved with as much as possible. Prepare some questions to ask the interviewer about the role you are applying for.
