  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is rotation based. This means that I go through different areas within GTC (Group Technology Change). I am currently doing Change, I am really enjoying understanding different areas of a business. When joining Royal London I was unsure of which specific role I wanted to do. These rotations gave me an idea of the future career I am looking for.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much! It is very interesting as technology has always been an area I have been interested in so developing my knowledge has been great! I like how the course links in with my work day to day so I am able to perform my job to a higher standard.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very structured in a way that you are able to get a flavour for all the different pathways in first year. After year one you can choose which pathway you want to take (unless signed by your employer) these include Cyber Security, Data Analytics, Software Engineering and IT consultancy.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer! I am able to ask for extra time to complete university assignments during my work hours if I feel I need extra time to complete these. This is great as it allows me to complete my work to a high standard.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I also receive a lot of support from Manchester Metropolitan University. The lecturers are always willing to help and answer questions and are easily contacted by email or teams. We also have regular reviews with our skills coach who combines uni and work and gives general support and point us in directions of resources we may need.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like it does help us perform in a role, some rotations more than others. This is because some rotations e.g. software engineering are directly linked to the course, if we are using the Java programming language in work we also learn how to code in Java at uni. Therefore, this direct link improves work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a few. Most of them are groups which have calls often and sometimes have speakers to encourage members. For example the women in tech group is great as it lets you meet other people in the company who you otherwise may not have been able to meet or work with.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working at Royal London to a friend because they are a great company to work for. Everyone is very skilled at their role and being an apprentice it really enhances my learning being able to shadow them. They are also very flexible and look after their staff.
