  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As assistant manager I look after the business in my general managers absence. I look after the team, do recruitment, assist with training, manage both dry and wet stocks, currently finishing looking after dry stock and moving onto wet stock, duty manager responsibilities, managing the social media page, replaying to reviews

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt skills in leadership allowing me to lead the team instead of just managing it. Looking in-depth at conflict management and making me more comfortable in managing more difficult situations. Learning more about active listening and body language to make myself a more approachable leader and a valued member of the team

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My trainer is one of the main reasons I enjoy my program, she is very knowledgeable and patient which is ideal as the business does demand a lot from me. Learning about the different areas of the course and from a business point view have been really enjoyable and I look forward to doing the next level

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and allows for people of different work backgrounds to excel and move onto the next level in their career. I do enjoy the different forms of assessment as it caters for different learning styles and abilities. The workshops have been great especially as they were adapted quickly for covid timws

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I do receive help from my employer however a more structure way they could help would be great. In my opinion while the higher ups know about the course and such there is not a lot of support for General Manager to support their team as learners and instead they have to learn on the fly

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of help from the training provider. There’s is plenty of resources available on their my life portal and the easy interface is great especially with uploading documents for portfolio and other appropriate documents. The use of different forms of learning makes it a great tool for everyone

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training program has allowed me to learn more about myself as a leader and to bring in different techniques and models to the team I in order to help the team with their training and development. It had also gave me skills to implement into my projects to promote the business

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Greene king does promote the fundraising of charitable funds especially for their charity of choice Macmillan. Our BDM ran the great north run and got the whole area behind him to raise funds to support this. We also have links with local sports teams and host a local football team nearly every Saturday

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I love working for greene king and think they as an employer have grown over the years. There are a large amount of benefits the company provides including discounts for both ourselves and for family and friends every month. Also they are great at internal development and promotion which is not the norm in some companies


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Greene king is a great employer at all the different levels. I would advise someone applying to look at the different areas and opportunities and see what would fit them personality and interests them in order to get the best out of it. Coming in with a positive can do attitude would also be beneficial
