  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work alot with stakeholders across the business, different functions and a high level of customer interface. I track spend and budget for reporting purposes and ensure documentation is up to date and accurate. I attend university one day of the working week which goes towards my degree and the other four in the working environment

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, we have a guide of competencies, behaviors, skills and knowledge we must show an example of before the degree finishes. I have developed leadership and collaboration the most in this role as this is a natural progression for a project manager. I also have learnt alot about inclusivity and resourcefulness from the off the job opportunities they provide

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my Programme. I feel as though i get ample support from all areas and reporting streams are made very clear if i ever had any issues which are welcomed genuinely. I enjoy the mix of education and hands on working and believe BAE is giving me a great opportunity

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Programme is well outlines and described to us initially so we are aware of the five year plan and what is expected of us each year. We have regular reviews and support from all avenues. We are aware what we are needed to achieve for the next milestone and peers from other years often help.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive more than enough support from my employer, line manager, wider team, mentor and apprenticeship management. I am aware of what is expected of me and who to raise issues and concerns with if i need so. There is also a lot of support and forums online we are encouraged to read.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive ample support from Blackpool College through lectures, learning and to our final grade. Due to the position and level of education i am in there is only so much they can provide whilst promoting independent work and thinking but i do not feel unsupported and i am comfortable speaking to my tutors if required. They also provide HELMs who support your assignment submissions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though my degree has helped massively in my day to day role as I can apply the theory to what i see in some tasks. As it is a professional world, stakeholders forget to describe what they are talking about as it is basic knowledge to them, without the degree i would be unsure. I have managed to use templates from my course to help with work and have made suggestions on improvements based on what ive learnt

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, the company promotes STEM work and being a STEM ambassador. I take part in mock interviews, presentations, talk sand career events to different ages and locations to promote the company and apprenticeships in general. We also take part in national apprentice week and have forums and networks that are site specific.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company has given me opportunities and support i would not have expected/been aware of. The teaching and hands on experience is first class and you can see a future with BAE from the start. The global presence opens doors if you want them and is constantly growing for future experiences.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • - Be yourself on your application as there is an interview process they will catch you out if you lie! - Make sure to include all your skills when applying, even if you don't think its relevant you may be able to take competencies such as leadership/teamwork out of it which would be great! -Make sure you go to careers fairs/open days and talk to people working there to answer any questions you have
