  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Supporting the capacity planning of KitKat. This involves reviewing upcoming risks and helping route cause why thee risks exist and what can be done to mitigate them. I go to several meetings to report on this risk. These meetings are all internal. Although my job effects customer I do not directly communicate with them. I liaise with the factory team and the demand planning team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills. One of these is how to use some technology systems such as Analysis for Office and SAP. I analyse large amounts of data and using technology is very helpful for this. As I have to attend a lot of meetings, I am also developing my communication and presentation skills. Learning how to concisely explain information in a meeting is quite difficult, but this role is very much helping me with it.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme. I am learning an awful lot and am managing to get myself into a good position in a massive company. I am glad that I get to do year long placements, but this doesn't exactly match up with the studying so sometimes it is difficult to have workplace examples.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. I have understood from the beginning how the programme will work and when I will be moving roles and attending university. There are several people in place at work and at the university to help and support me if I need it. This contributes to the good organisation.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support. Formally at work I have a Champion and a mentor as part of the scheme. Outside the scheme I have a line manager and his manager who take an interest in making sure I develop my skills and make the most of my role under them. I also have a buddy who has worked at the company for many years who helps me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive lots of support from the university. I have a tutor and lots of different lecturers. They are all very knowledgeable and helpful. They understand that we are working full time as well and so provide support or extensions on assignments if we are struggling. They also provide good, helpful feedback on any assignments we do.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives some background knowledge which I would not have if I was doing the role only. This helps contribute to me being able to route cause problem solve in my job and give me ideas about how to solve things. With this extra background knowledge I feel confident contributing to my team.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As I have only worked during Covid times, it has unfortunately been quite quiet on the extra curricular activities - I have only just come back into the office. There are volunteering events though! This week I will be participating in a "Big Clean" of the local area, as well as being a good thing to get involved in, it will also be a good internal networking opportunity.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Nestle to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a large business but still makes every employee feel heard/valued. I am not treated poorly by other employees because I am an apprentice - I feel like everyone else. There are lots of opportunities and you will always get to get involved in something if you ask. As it is such a large business there are a lot of different areas that you can work in and Nestle encourages internal movement and promotion. You don't have to specialise, they are happy for employees to be generalists.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • Know why you want to work for the company, do your research and be prepared. You don't need to be outgoing and loud to get through the application process, let your natural interest and will to work show through above the others who might be making more noise than you. Let Nestle know what you can contribute and how you will make their company better. Let them know about any shared ethical values you have with the company and why this will make you the perfect employee.
