  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in an office administering pensions for big company pension schemes this involves doing calculations to calculate fund values and also speak to members in order to help them with any issues or changes they may be have. I find the role enjoyable and the standard of workplace is exceptional

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been constantly developing skills I held before such as communicating with the general public, being able to use complex formulas to calculate members benefits also a using complex computer systems daily to draft letters and emails as well as using microsoft office very regularly to communicate with members

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • For the role i think the programmes is actually too taxing and requires too much for what is actually necessary, and the prospect of the role and career isnt as great as first thought so makes me question why so much work is needed to be done especially when already having to do the job of an administrator who is getting paid twice as much

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Not amazingly structured seems to be a bit wishy washy with what to do and when to do it. The people are very good and helpful but there seems t be very little communication between my company and apprenticeship provider which seems to create friction and emphasises thw fact we not sure what to do and when

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All the support i receive is from my employer the growth company dont provide any of the training really they just keep tabs on how I am progressing and what exactly i am doing. As the training is in office and I dont have to go to college i havent received any training from the growth company

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Cant say i have received any training my groeth company representative who monitors my progress is very helpful and offers me help and tips but this is on a bi fortnightly basis so it is hard to say i feel very well supported when I see them for half an hour every 4 weeks

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qulification side of it does benefit me in my role as I am taking exams which are greatly benfiting my knowledge of pensions, the learning I am doing is helping me learn more and more about pensions as well as helping my analytical skills. the qualification is very helpful

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am very impressed with my company we are provided with loads of support there are constant fundraisers and awareness ecvents as well as team lunches pub lunches end of month drinks where we all get together and The prospect of inter office sports events as well as travelling to other offices to meet new people

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a highly professional work environment and one of the few work environment i have been involved in where everyone is valued and are respected equally. It is also one of the few places where I can sit next to partners of the business who are very knowledgable and experience


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barnett Waddingham?
  • be expected to have a professional attitiude as well as a positive outlook and expect to be pushed to improve and to learn as well as this there will be planty of opportunities to progress and benefit from working at a growing company which is also very well rated as a company to work for
