  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a pension administrator can be briefly described as holding responsibility for the day-to-day administration of pension schemes. My job is to ensure any status of member within a scheme, is being accurately conserved and serviced to the appropriate level required of me. The responsibilities vary in importance, difficulty and urgency however, there is an expectation that each task gets completed in an efficient, professional manner. My role is a customer service role as, the work I am doing is for the benefit of the pensioners on the schemes I manage.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to complete numerous tasks on my own without requiring help unless really needed. I can complete the basic tasks such as COA, COB, EOW etc with ease and I am getting really comfortable completing all the more complex tasks I have been taught e.g. retirement illustrations, set-up tasks etc. I have also learnt more and understand pensions and know key events which affect the way I complete some tasks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the programme as it provides a substantial amount of support and resources which I am able to use to help me with my day to day work. There are many contacts available which I can utilise to help me in my apprenticeship work such as, with my APE exams.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is organised in terms of the plan that is set out for us to follow. For example, when we enter gateway etc. There are also a lot of different departments which help with our apprenticeship. However, I do feel the communication of the apprenticeship between the training team and growth company could be more efficient.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a ton of support given by my employer. I have so many avenues of support which I can use to my advantage whenever I need. They have done an excellent job in ensuring that support is available no matter what the issue is. For example, I have a team leader, line manager, assigned buddy etc. All these close contacts makes me more at ease with the work I complete knowing support is always there for me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The Growth Company set up monthly meetings to ensure that I am keeping up to date with my apprenticeship and I am on track to completing it. They ensure I am happy with the work I complete and also that my employers are happy with how I am doing. My training rep does a good job of handling this and helps with giving me the knowledge statement work I have to complete in sections to manage it easier.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training provider as previously mentioned, help with organising the apprenticeship to make it manageable with the day to day important work I complete. It helps me perform better as there is less stress on me to focus on both the apprenticeship work and day to day work as the training provider have a done a good job in planning the apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to COVID-19 this was stopped however I have been informed that such events will be starting again. For example, I am in a football group chat on Fuze with other work colleagues and we are trying to organise a get together to play football. This is good as it allows me to be more comfortable in the working environment and less reserved as I am socialising with my colleagues.
