  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • So I work kind of as a trainee junior insurance broker, helping colleagues in my team with admin tasks and renewal activities for clients policies, these include updating the MID for fleet policies, updating risk details on Acturis, producing Pre-Renewal Questionnaires and reports, emailing clients and insurers, getting quotes from insurers and helping to market renewals

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my confidence and communication skills as well as job specific skills that are needed in my role, these include the ability to use Acturis, building relationships with clients/colleagues and insurers, being more professional as a whole and understanding the insurance market in general and getting to grips with my studies which means having a wider range of knowledge on products available within commercial insurances.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my programme at the beginning when it all had a structure and set layout where I knew what I was doing and when, however working from home made it very difficult to pick up certain things and not being in that work environment meant it took a lot longer to understand my job and pick up things.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme was very well organized and structured at the start but began to lose this as I went on, my office isn't very organized work wise and in terms of getting work for me to complete. My experience with the training providers has been awful, not having contact with them for months in some cases has meant I am now behind with my studies and not been able to progress as I should have.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received adequate support from my employer, quite a lot at the start and then not as much a few months down the line. As I am now nearly finished with my apprenticeship I think I should have had a lot more support throughout to help me progress in line with the deadlines

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Not a lot at all, my experience with Davies has been really bad, from not having a coach or them completely disappearing and then continuously being assigned with a new coach and having to start from scratch, I've had issues with my studies and coursework/assignments and just not being told when I need to do things or what exactly

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My studies have been helpful as they have helped me to understand the basics and main insurance fundamentals, helping me gain a wider knowledge and understanding of the market as a whole. I do think however I should have been able to choose modules that were more relevant and specific to my actual job role as this would have helped me understand better and faster.

Aon also sponsor other companies that hold events which you can take part in on a monthly basis.
