  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to overwatch and take care of children within the setting. To make sure as a caregiver to the children I safeguard them. I make sure they have all their needs cared for and they are in a happy and safe environment. I also watch over children and report any issues I see that are necessary.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills due to the fact of never working in childcare previously. I used my GCSE basic knowledge of childcare and development and applied some of that into a real life situation and I have seen common links of what I’ve learnt to real life. I have also had to adapt some of my knowledge to fit into a setting within the nursery.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme. I find it useful to apply the knowledge that I’ve learnt within my apprenticeship to apply to situations and learn how the children react and how to make and improve so they learn and develop. I also find it very rewarding to find how the bonds I have with children help them develop.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very structured. I get set new work at the start of each month to be completed by the start of every following month. I know what to do and know my tutor is only at the end of the phone if I need any help. I can talk to my tutor and ask if I need more work and set dates for speaking assignments with ease.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support. I get given time to complete my work if I’m behind within the setting office and also outside the setting. She helps answer any questions I have and if I need help with how to word a scenario. She will assist with pointers on how to write it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive support of a high basis. I get information when works are set and pointers on how to write and how to work to get the most out of my apprenticeship. I always ask questions and they always get answered fully so I understand and can be confident in my work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It allows me t carry my knowledge over and apply it to real life scenarios. It allows me to see everything in more detail and realise that children's development and growth all move in different ways and how I can help them get the most of being at nursery.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have staff meetings once a month which involves a focus topic for each month. It’s a time where we all get together and can talk about anything that is relevant. It allows us to talk as a team from different rooms not just as a single room. It allows fresh ideas and imagination to grow.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Blossoms on the Common to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend as they help you as a person a lot. No matter if your struggling or if you are ahead they will work at your pace allowing you to complete the work as well as working and not worry that your doing it wrong or getting stressed that work isn’t getting completed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Blossoms on the Common?
  • I would say go for it. No matter what happens they always support you and there is always someone on the phone. They are all really nice people and you don’t feel like judged for asking a silly question. They all work hard to ensure you have the best out of your apprenticeship
