  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work with managers and all employees on a daily basis to ensure that everyone is supported in all aspects from company matters to personal. I work on admin duties completing absence, supporting resourcing and approvals up to carrying out investigations in relation to disciplinary's etc

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the work I do, my team are so supportive and they make the work and experience easier as I am confident and comfortable with them. From the company culture that I have been exposed to I have always been treated as an equal and people have only wanted to help and push me to succeed. For the years that I have been with Tarmac I have enjoyed my time here and the programme

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My previous level 3 training was interrupted due to covid which did impact the delivery and completion of the course. I am yet to start my level 5 again due to covid so I am unable to comment on how well this is structured. Within my team and with my manager we are ready to start and have a support plan in place so as soon as I start there will be a structure to work with

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am 100% supported by my manager, team and wider company. I am always supported and offered help whenever I need it. I know of different departments or people I can contact for support and am also able to access online training. Any problems I have I can reach out to anyone in my team. Being in Tarmac it has shown that they have such a positive outlook and attitude to early careers and young workers and are invested in the outcome and succession of each individual, so from my experience so far I have felt supported the entire way

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • With my level 3 course I had good support from my tutor, she gave feedback and answered questions outside of the lessons on my assignments and work, the lesson content and assignments I felt confident in. My mentor however, was less supportive due to there being a crossover between people, over the 2/3 years I had 3 mentors which meant that there wasn't consistency and I was given different information which didn't match. Throughout covid the support didn't carry on and made my final submission and final interview really stressful and not enjoyable.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • With the lesson content and information this has given valuable information for me to better understand my role and put what I learned into practice. I think with the qualification the assignments were more beneficial rather than the final project and interview as this was a test of me and not my role. The project didn't make sense to me in how it would benefit the business or me in my role. However, having a tutor who was a previous Manager in the industry was invaluable as she was able to give real life scenarios and offer real world advice

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I haven't been to any company events other than scheduled meetings and team functions with my team and wider department. I don't partake in any clubs or classes outside of work, I have previously volunteered. I spend all my free time with my family, friends and partner

  • 9a. Would you recommend Tarmac to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Tarmac for me has been an amazing start to my career and step into the working world, I feel really lucky to have had such a good start. When talking to other people I know and hearing how there company treats them or how they have started does make me see that Tarmac is a really good place to work, I am treated well and have been given so many opportunities to grow and develop

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tarmac?
  • Having applied and also worked with managers with recruitment, the advice I would give is to really put across in your application and interviews why you have picked that role, the skills and experience you are able to put to the role, this doesn't have to be directly linked but anything you have done small or big will give you skills that can be transferred into the role. Don't be afraid to ask for development or extra training as this shows that you are aware of yourself and by showing you are aware of how to improve yourself is important
